Those who celebrate the winter season find it easier to get to celebration sites such as The Slopes with four tires digging though the frosty white. And now iconic four-wheel drive maker Jeep decorates the winter wonderland with two special editions, the Jeep Wrangler Arctic and Jeep Liberty Arctic.
The special Arctic edition Jeeps are just special trim packages, however. The 2012 Jeep Wrangler Arctic, for example, is ironically enough based on the Wrangler Sahara trim level but with a winter theme. It’s available only in colors including Winter Chill, Bright Silver, and Bright White, with “Arctic" badges on the front fenders, a "Yeti Footprint" decal over part of the driver's side fender and hood, and a black hood decal. The Wrangler Arctic, which comes standard with a body-color hardtop and fender flares, also gets Mopar black fuel filler door and taillamp guards.
Optional on the Jeep Wrangler Arctic—and the only really winter-functional part of the special edition—are an aggressive Wrangler Rubicon tire and wheel package, with 32-inch tires on Wrangler Arctic-only semi-gloss black 17-inch wheels.
The Wrangler Arctic edition’s seats have “black Tectonic fabric with Polar White accents and orange piping and accent stitching.” Appropriately, the front seats are heated and naturally have an "Arctic" logo in the seat back. Jeep also added Accent stitching to the steering wheel, arm rest, and console lid. Door trim and nets are accented in orange, and all grab handles and dashboard vent rings are finished in Polar White trim. Who knew Yeti liked orange?
Mopar tread pattern slush mats with white "Jeep" lettering complete the Wrangler Arctic package.
The 2012 Jeep Liberty Arctic is based on the Liberty Sport 4x4 model, and not surprisingly shares many features with the Wrangler Arctic. The Liberty Arctic, however, adds Mineral Gray to the color palette in addition to the three colors offered on the Wrangler Arctic.
"Arctic" badges on the front fenders are like those on the Wrangler Arctic, though the "Arctic" decal on the hood is unique to Liberty. Under the fenders are semi-gloss black 16-inch aluminum wheels with center caps painted semi-gloss black, mounted with P235/70R16 white-lettered all terrain tires. The Jeep Liberty Arctic also gets deep tint glass and tow hooks, blacked-out headlamps and standard fog lamps.
Inside, the 2012 Jeep Liberty Arctic gets the black and Arctic Orange color scheme popular with Yeti, the seats upholstered in black vinyl with a Gortex embossment, with “Tectonic fabric” with Polar White accents. Power front seats are heated and have the "Arctic" logo in the seat back. Special for the Arctic are gray-faced gauges, express up/down one-touch windows, Media Center 430 touch-screen with a nine-speaker Infiniti sound system, and Mopar slush mats with white "Jeep” lettering.
The 2012 Jeep Wrangler, of course, is now powered by the new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine that transforms the Wrangler. Click here for the 2012 Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Wrangler Unlimited story.
