Jean Stevens hit a three run go ahead home run to lead the University of Maine softball team to an 8-7 victory over Quinnipiac in the Black Bears first of two games at Clearwater, Florida on Friday.
Stevens hit a two run go ahead homer to lead Maine to a 2-1 victory over the University of Rhode Island (URI) in the Black Bears second and final game of the day.
Hilary Kane hit a two run home run in the victory over Quinnipiac.
Beth Spoehr earned the game one victory in the circle for the Black Bears. Alexis Bogdanovich pitched the final two innings to earn the save.
Former Bangor high school standout Samantha Bedore pitched a solid game for URI in a losing effort.
The Black Bears only had two hits off Bedore. She gave up two runs, two walks and struck out six.
Hannah Hill pitched a complete game to earn the victory for the Black Bears. Hill allowed one run, seven hits and three walks. Hill struck out five.
Maine (3-22) will continue their Florida awing with games against Rutgers and Liberty on Saturday. They will finish the games in the sunshine state with a single game against Colgate on Sunday morning.
