March 2, 2013- Paris
Jean Paul Gaultier’s Fall 2013 Ready-to-Wear collection in Paris today, brought a familiar palette of regurgitated fashion ideas to the runway. This is not to impugn him anymore than the entire fashion industry in the 21st Century. You can hate me for saying this. You may not like it but there are many things in life, which are true; but not pleasant to hear.
None of these current designers have any real talent today. Slimane, at Dior, Jacobs now at Saint Laurent, are typical. It's what happens when money completely takes over the creative process; and Fast Fashion, which is, not fashion. It is Rape. Marc Jacobs is a fashion rapist. Style Angelique. Most designers today are Fashion rapists. They have no original ideas; or original thoughts in their dull uncreative imagination. They rape ideas from other people/stylists etc., which they steal and sell for profit; to corporate labels they prostitute themselves out to. Fashion is just a Business today. Just.
Fast Fashion has destroyed fashion; as it was once known. I do have respect for real designers today like Jean Paul Gaultier who have, inspired and created many original designs over the years, and is still dedicated and interested in it for the fashion; not money. Money is not interesting. Clothes are. Though there are few if any new fashion ideas today; technique and craftsmanship is still something to admire and respect. Jean Paul played it safe today.
80’s neo-mullet hairstyles- short on top- long in the back was amusing. The 80’s rocker chick look has been played out many times before. Models in an array of off-the-shoulder silhouettes mixed with loud jewelry, printed and patchwork-infused pieces paired with sweeping floor-length outerwear, and of course, the designer's signature strong-shouldered blazers and pantsuits set in metallic sheens.
The floor length dresses, and layering - the de rigueur fashion statement that has now become the new norm in women swear, dominate the collection.
