Garrett + Moulton is a local performing arts organization dedicated to the presentation of live performances of dance, music, and other theater arts. It is named after its founders, Janice Garrett, an internationally active choreographer and dance educator, and Charles Moulton, a member of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company between 1973 and 1976, who has created works for the Joffrey Ballet and Mikhail Baryshnikov’s White Oak Project. Their latest effort is a 35-minute dance work entitled “A Show of Hands,” which, as the title suggests, explores touch, gesture, and the expressive capabilities of the human hand. The music for this piece has been composed by Dan Becker (who is also Professor of Composition at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music); and it will be performed by the Friction Quartet (violinists Kevin Rogers and Otis Harriel, violist Clio Tilton, and cellist Douglas Machiz).
This work will be performed in the open space of the Pottruck Family Atrium of the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco (JCCSF), located at 3200 California Street. There will be six performance, all given in the afternoon. The specific dates and times are as follows:
