It was a rough maiden voyage for St. Louis Park head coach Ben Wolfe Friday night when Luke Norland scored two second quarter touchdowns to lead the Jackson County Central Huskies to a 21-7 win over the Orioles in their home opener.
Tonight's game was one of 11 games around the state that began a week early to take advantage of "Zero Week", meaning that there will be a bye week during the season.
Neither team scored in the first quarter. The Huskies got on the board with Norland's first touchdown from seven yards and later scored on a one yard run to give JCC a 14-0 halftime lead.
The Huskies increased their lead in the third quarter as Keegan Moore went up the middle to score on an eight yard touchdown run. There would be no shutout in St. Louis Park for the Jackson based school when Bryant Griffin Jr. scored on a nine yard run.
The score would stay the same in the fourth quarter, though the Orioles had a chance to come within a touchdown. But Quinn Livdahl through an incomplete pass on a fourth down conversion.
JCC, who lost in last year's Class AA quarterfinals to Moose Lake/Willow River will open up their home season on Friday, August 30 against the Foley Falcons.
St. Louis Park fell to 0-1 and will have next Friday off before returning to action the following Friday, September 6, hosting the Fridley Tigers.
