Last Saturday night (June 21, 2014), the John Butler Trio played Boston's Blue Hills Bank Pavilion (formerly the Bank of America Pavilion) with the support of Allen Stone, in support of their newest studio album, Flesh & Blood.

Opener Allen Stone brought the soul to those of us who were lucky enough to arrive to the Pavilion early in the evening. He's a peculiar looking gentleman, definitely not one you would see and think of as "soulful." However, he radiates enough soul to take over anyone and everyone with earshot. It was a great, funky set, and if you weren't dancing, you weren't paying close enough attention.

John Butler Trio then brought the roots. Or more so, John Butler then melted faces. I sadly couldn't stay the whole show, only the first three songs I was able to photograph, but from those three, and the few I heard from outside the venue, and what I've seen in the past (in 2010 when he stole the show from State Radio at this very venue, all the way back to 2004 when he completely blew me away while opening for O.A.R. in Providence) I could tell that the John Butler Trio has mastered the art of the mind-blowing performance.
