Since their formation in 1972, Steely Dan has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide resulting in seven platinum albums between 1972 and 1980. In 1977, the groundbreaking album Aja was released and featured classics like ‘Peg’ and ‘Deacon Blues’. Other Steely Dan hits include ‘Reelin’ in the Years,’ ‘Rikki Don’t Lose That Number,’ ‘and ‘Hey Nineteen’.
In 1981, Becker and Fagen announced that they were taking a hiatus. While Becker moved to Hawaii and became an "avocado rancher and self styled critic of the contemporary scene," Fagen released his 1982 platinum solo album Nightfly which featured the Top 20 hit ‘I.G.Y.’.
It would not be until 1993 when the two would reform and in the early 1990s the group launched several sold-out tours. In 2000 they released Two Against Nature which garnered several Grammys including Album of the Year. The following year in 2001, Steel Day was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
