Jan 23, 2011 - For just under one hundred dollars the Hip Kitty Jazz and Fondue, in Claremont, can give you a great, fun filled, dinner for two. You and your companion will spend hours dipping bread into melted cheese, cooking shrimp and scallops in boiling broth, and the best! coating fruit and marshmallows with decadent melted chocolate. And all of it accompanied by a bottle of wine.
That experience is exquisite, but to enjoy the Hip Kitty you don’t have to drop a Benjamin. Each part of the fondue service is served separately and there are several other options as appetizers – shrimp cocktails, bread platters, you name it.
The full bar and the food treats alone can make your night, yet, picture enjoying them while listening to jazz – indie jazz, straight up jazz, Latin jazz, or a Jam night. This past Saturday Mambop performed three sets that began at 8 pm with a first of Latin Jazz followed by two that included danceable Cha-Chas and Salsas for the enjoyment of the crowd.
The Hip Kitty is no secret to the people of the area. The place gets packed to the brim and reservations are very much recommended. If you happen to enjoy a cigar, do not hesitate – Hip Kitty has a large smoking patio from which you will miss none of the music happening indoors.
Hip Kitty is open Tuesday through Sunday. Most nights are cover charge free. Saturdays the cover is $5. If you are a Latin Jazz aficionado The Scott Martin Latin Soul Band will be there on Friday February 4 and Mambop will be back on Saturday March 19.
