The year 2014 has reached its half way point. We are in the month of June which is a month of transition. In June, there are a lot of weddings, graduations, vacations and many people move from one state to another or one neighborhood to another. June is also a month when the outdoor concert season really begins. In southern California that means a lot of concerts. There are several concerts of note this month that should really be fantastic.

On June 8, 2014, at 7:30 pm, the virtuoso bass wizard Victor Wooden will perform at the El Rey and the concert is presented by Goldenvoice. As part of the Moveable Feast, Allen Broadbent solo piano will be featured at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City on June 12, 2014 at 8pm. On Friday, June 13, 2014, at 8pm, the Allison Adams Tucker CD release concert for "April in Paris" will be at Vitello's in Studio City.

There will be a special tribute to Frank Morgan at the Grammy Museum on June 15, 2014 at 2pm. The featured artists will be Ron Carter and George Cables. One of the biggest events in June and perhaps the whole year is the 36th Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl on the weekend of June 14 and 15. There are so many great singers and musicians in the lineup including Dianne Reeves, George Benson, Al Jarreau, Stanley Clarke among others.

The Levitt Pavilion Pasadena has announced 50 free summer outdoor concerts beginning June 15, 2014. Some of the artists on the schedule include Bobby Rodriguez, Dwight Tribble and Barbara Morrison. Free is something that you just can't beat. If you want to find out about other concert events around southern California, please visit www.lajazz.com. A gentle reminder now that the weather is getting warmer, please drink plenty of water, wear sunscreen, hats and keep your cool.
