Montclair, New Jersey's Jazz House Kids program has a new home.
Mayor Robert Jackson cut the ribbon launching the Jazz House Kids music education program's new quarters at 347 Bloomfield Ave. in Montclair.
Designed by John M. Reimnitz Architects P.C., the new facility includes offices, studios, and classrooms as well as a variety of other instructional facilities.
The Jazz House Kids program was founded by Montclair resident Melissa Walker. The programs provide music instruction and performing opportunities for youngsters in elementary school through high school. Christian McBride, a Grammy Award-winning big band leader, jazz bassist and Walker's husband, is creative director for the Jazz House Kids program.
Last autumn, The program celebrated its 10th anniversary with a gala fundraiser at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark. The honorees included philanthropist John Cali, jazz saxophone great Wayne Shorter and actor, singer and social activist Harry Belafonte.
