Jazz finds summer home at Lesher Center

Grammy and Emmy winners will headline a new summer Jazz series produced by the Diablo Regional Arts Association.

“Jazz at the Lesher Center” kicks off in July with trumpet player Arturo Sandoval followed by guitarist and vocalist John Pizzarelli on July 29 swing trombonist Wycliffe Gordon on August 4, and vocalist Jane Monheit on August 11.

“This series will fill a gap,” said Peggy White, DRAA executive director. “Jazz, as performed by artists of the very top rank, has been missing from the area’s arts scene.”

Daniel Levenstein is managing the inaugural 2012 season. Levenstein was the founding director of Smuin Ballet and is currently director of the classical series Chamber Music San Francisco.

All “Jazz at the Lescher Center” performances begin at 8 p.m. and will be held at the Margaret Lesher Theater in the The Lesher Center for the Arts located at 1601 Civic Center Drive, Walnut Creek.
