For those of you in the Baltimore area.... from my good friend Benny Russell
SPIRITUALS AND OTHER MUSINGS: A TRIBUTE TO 50 YEARS OF A DREAM
Join us on Sunday, February 24, at 3 PM, in Harford Community College’s Joppa Hall, Room 108, for Spirituals and Other Musings: A Tribute to 50 Years of a Dream to celebrate milestones in the Civil Rights movement.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the assassinations of Civil Rights Activist Medgar Evers and President John F. Kennedy, the bombing of the 16th St. Baptist Church in Birmingham, the blocking of James Hood’s enrollment at the all-white University of Alabama by Governor George Wallace, and the 1963 March on Washington.
With music composed and conducted by Benny Russell, the chamber ensemble includes a string quartet along with the wind quintet Quintaero.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the ROP Mentoring Program and Visual Performing and Applied Arts. For more information, contact brussell@harford.edu or slove@harford.edu, or call 443-412-2224.
