Vocalist Akua Allrich has been a mainstay of the DC jazz scene ever since she made her debut as a professional, but now the chanteuse is celebrating the launch of a new tour with a one night only performance at Bohemian Caverns. Allrich has delighted local fans with her Nina Simone and Miriam Makeba tribute concerts, the music from her two recordings (A Peace of Mine and Uniquely Standard, Akua Allrich Live), and with spirited performances that have been described as “engaging,” “unique,” and “soul(ful),”but now she’s taking her talents on the road giving others an opportunity to experience what the DC crowd has known for years: Allrich’s voice is the stuff that legends are made of.

Award winning trumpeter Nicholas Payton is one of the most talented musicians on the scene today. Having performed with some of the biggest names in the industry, Payton has also led celebrated groups of his own including his famed SeXXXtet and his 21-piece big band.

Mars 4-tet, Twins Jazz, tonight and Saturday, June 13-14, 2014, show times: 8pm & 10pm; tickets: $18

Saxophonist Jeff Antoniuk, drummer Frank Russo, bassist Max Murray, and guitarist Donato Soviero are the Mars 4-tet. The group will perform jazz of the 70s, 80s, and 90s featuring the music of such notables as Keith Jarrett, Pat Methany, Michael Brecker, and John Scofield.
