After taking what she referred to as a break from her music career, Vibe reported on Monday May 12, that soulful singer Jazmine Sullivan is back with a new single, featuring Philly rapper Meek Mills, on the track titled "Dumb."
Singersroom revealed that after a long awaited comeback from Sullivan, she announced during a sold-out comeback show at the KOKO Theater in London that a new album was on the way.
"In late March (2014), she confirmed the upcoming release of her third studio album Reality Show," reported Singersroom. Now fans who have been anxiously waiting for the "Bust Your Windows" singer to drop something new, the wait is over.
The song, which opens with the slow rhythm of the drums playing and a portion of the hook "you ain't right," repeated by Sullivan, is composed in true Sullivan style with vocals that only she can belt out.
It was back in 2011 when the Boombox reported that Sullivan tweeted about her decision to step away from the music industry.
“I’m making an official announcement that i am taking a break from music,” she tweeted. “i’m trying to figure out who i am… w/out a mike, paper or pen. i promised myself when it wasn’t fun anymore i wouldn’t do it. and here i am. [sic]“
It was during her live show in London after almost three years of being out the spotlight that Sullivan addressed what happened to cause her music making to not be fun anymore. Necole Bitchie reported the personal issues which led to her taking her break included the pressures to conform to the industry’s standard of beauty and her own insecurities from being involved in an abusive relationship.
Regardless of the reasons she decided to leave the industry, music lovers can just be happy and celebrate with her return and the birth of a new album. Welcome Back Jazmine!
