The first photo of Jaycee Dugard as an adult was released by People.com today. Jaycee will be on the cover of the October 26 issue of the magazine, which hits newstands Friday.
Dugard is smiling directly at the camera and looks years younger than her age of 29. Her hair is darker but she still bears an unmistakable resemblance to her 11-year-old self.
Dugard released photos to People to "share her joy with the world" and let others see how well she is doing, family spokeswoman Erika Shulte told NBC on Wednesday.
More pictures will be published inside the issue but her daughters, Angel, 15, and Starlit, 11, will only be shown from behind. Dugard was not interviewed by the magazine but people close to her spoke in the article about her rehabilitation process.
Dugard was 11 when she was abducted outside her home by Philip Garrido and his wife, Nancy, and survived an 18-year-long kidnapping ordeal before she was discovered this past summer.
Dugard has been staying at an undisclosed location in California with her mother and daughters. Schulte remarked, "I have seen a family. If you didn't know the circumstances, it would just seem like any other family. [They] are just very close and comfortable and happy."
Earlier this morning a representative from People, Peter Castro, spoke on CBS' The Early Show regarding the photo shoot and Dugard's recovery. Watch the video here:
