Jaycee Lee Dugard and Sharon Marshall share a common bond, both were kidnapped by pedophiles; both were held in captivity for over a decade. The difference between the two, however, is that Sharon Marshall was killed, most likely by Franklin Floyd who now sits on Florida’s death row, convicted in a different murder. Another factor that separates Jaycee Lee Dugard from Sharon Marshall is that no one is truly certain who Sharon Marshall was. Somewhere between the years of 1973 and 1975, Franklin Floyd began appearing in public with a daughter, a little girl who no one knew from where she came. At one point, Franklin Floyd had stated that the girl’s mother was a drunkard and drug addict who abandoned her daughter. Floyd also stated that he couldn’t remember the name of this woman who was supposedly his child’s mother.

In 1975, Franklin Floyd began working for the school system in Oklahoma. He registered “Sharon Marshall” under the alias “Suzanne Davis” and he was working under the alias Trenton Davis. Suzanne (Sharon) attended the Wilson Elementary School. By 1978, a young girl who was babysitting Suzanne (Sharon Marshall) alleged that the young girl was being molested by Floyd. Franklin Floyd took Sharon and the two fled the state.

Franklin Floyd continued a pattern of enrolling Sharon Marshall in a variety of schools in different states as he continued to evade the law. Sharon graduated from Forest Park High School in 1986; the school was located in Georgia. Despite all of her moving, and childhood abuse, Sharon Marshall excelled in school. She had earned a scholarship to Georgia Tech University, but attending college and living her dream of becoming an aerospace engineer would not be her fate. By July 1986, Franklin Floyd moved himself and Sharon to Phoenix, Arizona. This was followed by another move in 1988. This time the pair wound up in Hillsborough County, Florida and lived in a number of different trailer parks.

Sharon Marshall gave birth to a little boy on March 21, 1988; she named him Michael Anthony Hughes. The name is attributed to another alias that both Franklin Floyd and Sharon Marshall were using. When Sharon Marshall gave birth to Michael, Franklin Floyd was using the name Clarence Marcus Hughes and Charles Hughes. Sharon Marshall was using the name Tonya Dawn Tadlock. Though Franklin Floyd claimed to be Sharon’s father, he also claimed that he was Michael’s father as well.

By 1989, Sharon Marshall was working as an exotic dancer in Tampa’s Mons Venus club. It was there that Sharon met Cheryl Commesso.
