Jaycee Chan, the son of Jackie Chan who is the martial arts superstar, has been arrested in Beijing, China. The arrest is in connection with alleged drug use, according to a Telegraph report on Monday. Jaycee Chan, who is also known as Fang Zuming, was in the presence of Taiwanese actor Kai Ko – also known as Ko Chen-tung – when he was recently arrested for drugs. Kai Ko is the star of “You Are The Apple Of My Eye,” says Chinese online and state media sources.

Police found 100 grams of marijuana in Jaycee Chan’s residence. These drug charges against young Chan and Ko are after a number of other arrests in mainland China involving young people. Primarily it follows arrests of other Taiwanese and Hong Kong actors on these types of drug charges.

Of concern to the entertainment industry and the celebrities involved, is the backlash from those in China. Prior to the detention of these two performers, it was announced just last week that there is an agreement to boycott celebrities that engage in drug activity. It was reported that 42 entertainment and performance agencies agreed to boycott the drug-taking celebrities. The agreement aimed against drug-taking celebrities was organized by the Beijing Trade Association for Performances. The agreement called upon its member companies to avoid giving work to any actors who use drugs or to include such celebrities in any promotional events, according to Variety Magazine.

According to the deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Anti-Drug Office, Jin Zhihai, contemporary public figures and celebrities need to provide good examples for society – and specifically for juveniles. Other stars who have been negatively affected by the agreement are Gao Hu, an actor, who was caught taking drugs on August 4. Others involved with drugs who have hit China’s headlines include singer Li Daimo, director Zhang Yuan, screenwriter Ning Caishen, actor Zhang Mo, and actor Roy Cheung.

Whether or not Jaycee Chan’s drug troubles will have a negative impact on his father is unclear. His father, Jackie Chan has been known to distance himself from his son on occasion. He has already said that his son, Jaycee, will not inherit any of his fortune which is approximately $130 million. Incidentally, it is common knowledge that Jackie Chan is the son of a pre-war opium smuggler.
