Jay-Z to soundtrack 'The Great Gatsby' (Video)

The trailer for the forthcoming The Great Gatsby film looks pretty great. One of the first things to stand out is the familiar bass of Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Frank Ocean’s collaboration on “No Church in the Wild” for the Watch the Throne album. These beats are matched with a gold background, which looks a bit like the album cover, which fades into a retro rendering of New York City.

The trailer, which leads with a voice over by Leonardo DiCaprio discussing the city, is just as opulent as the scene painted in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel. The trailer is looking to be just the beginning of Jay-Z’s involvement with Gatsby, Perez Hilton announced that the legendary rapper will be doing the soundtrack as well.

The article sources Jay Electronica, who tweeted, “Jay-Z and myself have been working tirelessly on the score for the upcoming #CLASSIC The Great Gatsby!”

A.V. Club reports the same.

Between an all star cast, fantastic soundtrack, and the handiwork of Baz Luhrmann, The Great Gatsby film has potential. More details are sure to surface before the film is released on May 10, 2013.
