Jay-Z - Magna Carta Holy Grail - Album Review | by SIC ILL
He starts the track with Holy Grail. This track was originally meant for Watch The Throne, but Jay-Z kept it for this project. The title track feature Justin Timberlake who gives a good chorus, Jay-Z talks about still surviving no matter what. Picasso Baby is the next track, its a sleezy track about drugs, sex, money and condos. Tom Ford is a video game sounding track, he talks about tuxes and spending Euros. FuckWithMeYouKnowIGotIt, spelled with no spaces starts with a long running instrumental, then Rick Ross comes in, talking about Reebok and wealth. Oceans features Frank Ocean, this is a nice track, seems a little lazy for Hov though. F.U.T.W. short for fuck up this world is another relaxed track. Somewhereinamerica he talks about giving a shout to people getting new money and being snubbed by old money. Crown begins with a reggae sample, before drums kick in, I like track, sounds like a halloween hip hop song. He talks about not being illuminati, and people doubting his greatness, being 6' 2 in a bugatti. Versus is a quick bravado track, he talks about how his first year is better than most peoples last year. Part II features his wife superstar singer Beyonce on the hook, she starts off the track declaring her love for jigga several times. Beach is better, he talks about he's not trippin on a female unless she looks like Halle Berry or Beyonce. BBC is a uptempo track featuring an allstar cast, Nas, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Pharrell, Swizz Beats and Timbaland, it sounds like a giant party song. Jay-Z Blue, he talks about doing music for the babies, and being a father. La Familia is a track about putting family first and having integrity. Nickels And Dimes is the final track it's a smooth track and soft finish for the album.
Overall this is not as dramatic as most Jay-Z cds and reminds me of an album in the light of Kingdom come. On here Jay finally shows a bit of his age making rare Jay-Z filler tracks here and there. I give this album 4 out of 5 stars.
