Lately when it comes to hip hop being linked with fashion culture, rapper Kanye West is the name that comes to mind. Leave it to mogul Jay Z to change the game. Barneys announced this week that they would be teaming up with the rapper for a capsule collection titled "New York Holiday", one that is sure to make waves. Jay Z has definitely switched up his wardrobe over the years, going from strictly street wear to high fashion. His latest song "Tom Ford" pays homage to one of his favorite designers.
Jay Z will collaborate with top fashion designers for this hip hop inspired capsule collection, including Proenza Schouler, Lanvin, Balmain, and Rick Owens. The collection is expected to be extremely successful and a quarter of the proceeds will go to his Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation. The inspiration from the collection comes from none other than the city of New York, as well as the history of hip hop apparel. The collection will go on sale at Barneys on November 20th.
