Rapper, author, and all-around business man, Jay-Z quietly launched a new website yesterday. The Brooklyn-native calls the website, Life & Times. The seemingly intimate site, has sections for Style, Art & Design, Technology, Music, and Sports....so it's basically a lifestyle website, based on things a trendsetter (like Jay-Z) would think are cool. The Style section leads off with an interview of French fashion blogger, Garance Doré, who began writing about French fashion on her website about four years ago and also features an original sketch of hers.
Jay-Z also has a tab labeled, "Jay’s”, for posting personal images, thoughts, and musings. A photo of what seems to be a sunset in a tropical location, with a peek of a TV inside a cabana (?) at the bottom corner is labeled, “Peace God.”
Ousmane Sembene, an African filmaker is featured within the Art & Design section as an artist of note and one to watch, stating that he is the best filmaker on the continent of Africa. While author Glenn O’ Brien discusses his new book How to be a Man and reveals the details on some of his private collection of works from Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Tom Sachs. O'Brien, who is also a GQ contributer, states within his interview with Life & Times, "I never said no to anything...I got that from Andy Warhol. Somebody offers me a job, I say 'Yeah'". The unassuming 'Style Guy' also says that you can tell more about a man from his home than from his clothes...can you tell we love this site already?
Within this highly stylized website, you'll find a beautiful collage of tiled photos, great video interviews with style and taste-makers, and a seemingly random note from the owner himself. Jay-Z says in the About section, “I want to make the extraordinary, ordinary.” Well said.
