“Shortly after West announced The Yeezus Tour (his first solo jaunt in five years), Jay Z took to his website to share routing for the North American leg of his Magna Carta Holy Grail World Tour…” – huffingtonpost.com
It seems as though the reported bad blood between Jay-Z and Kanye West has an upside. Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail Tour, at the Nassau Coliseum in January, could be the result of one-upmanship. But when you get right down to it, money versus music is the real issue.
Does Z resent Kanye?
The headlines have been filled with stories about Jay-Z’s apparent resentment toward Kanye West.
First, there was a question of competition regarding album release dates. West’s Yeezus debuted on Jun. 18, 2013. Coincidence or not, Jay-Z launched the Magna Carta Holy Grail collection on July 4. It may be a bit off the point, but by comparison, both LP titles reek of egocentric elitism. Jesus and the Holy Grail, okay. Those titles didn’t merely happen by a twist of fate.
Then, Kanye announced plans for the “Yeezus” tour, in support of the album. What did Jay-Z do? You guessed it. He followed by making public the Magna Carta Holy Grail concert itinerary.
According to a Sept. 6, 2013 article by Kia Makarechi on huffingtonpost.com, “Jay Z Announces Magna Carta Holy Grail Tour On Same Day As Kanye's Tour Announcement,” the Roc-A-Fella Records and Roc Nation Sports owner sold passes to his shows “one day before tickets to West's concerts” went on sale.
Nassau Coliseum was not on West’s venue list.
Money versus music
The Magna Carta Holy Grail tour rolls into Nassau Coliseum on Sun., Jan. 19, 2014 at 8 p.m. With Z’s apparent rancor for West, Coliseum-goers would not be remiss for asking about the motivation behind the Magna Carta tour.
It’s plain to see that Jay-Z is a businessman and an entrepreneur. More to the point, Jay-Z has his sight fixed on the Nassau Coliseum and West does not. But Kanye West is an artist. He puts his money where his mouth is without fear of retribution. Can the same be said for Jay-Z when he takes to the Coliseum stage in January?
