Jay-Z and Beyonce make waves by visiting Cuba (Video)

U.S. lawmakers have been asking questions about how Jay-Z and Beyonce were cleared for a visit to Cuba last week for their wedding anniversary. Jonathan Lemire has reported for the New York Daily News on April 7, 2013, Florida politicians raise 'concern' over Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s jaunt to Cuba. Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Mario Diaz-Balart, who are both Republicans from Florida, have written a letter to the director of the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control expressing concern over the visit to Cuba by this famous couple.

United States citizens are granted permission to travel to Cuba only if they obtain a certain license. Thousands of Americans visit the island nation each year on academic, religious or journalistic licenses, even though there is a ban for tourism. As of this time Jay-Z and Beyoncé have not commented on why they visited Havana to celebrate five years of marriage. Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Mario Diaz-Balart are apparently pursuing
an investigation into this trip, with claims that “U.S. dollars spent on Cuban tourism directly fund the machinery of oppression that brutally repressed the Cuban people.”

The BBC has reported, Beyonce and Jay-Z visit to Cuba queried in US Congress. The BBC has confirmed that a recent visit to Cuba by US pop singer Beyonce and her rap star husband Jay-Z has been coming under scrutiny in connection with the US economic embargo. Nevertheless, the stars caused a local sensation when they celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary in Havana this week. Paradoxically, Beyonce sang the U.S. national anthem at President Barack Obama's inauguration in January. Well, perhaps new laws should give consideration to the nurturing of warmer relations between Cubans and Americans if travel restrictions for tourism to the tropical island nation were lifted.
