Jay Reatard: May 1, 1980 - January 13, 2010

And another rock icon leaves the underground.

Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr., better known to fans and fellow musicians by his stage name "Jay Reatard", was found dead in the bedroom of his Memphis, TN apartment by his roomate, according to local police. Police were called to the home at around 3:30 am where the rocker was believed to have passed away in his sleep.  An autopsy was performed by the Shelby County medical examiner and as of January 14th, a cause of death had not yet been determined. Lindsey was 29.

Best known for his prolific output of punk and indie rock, guitar driven music, Lindsey is said to have recorded more than 20 full length albums with a number of recording artists, often working in more than one band at a time. One side project the singer and musician had, The Bad Times, was said to have recorded an album’s worth of material after only one practice session. As an excellant introduction to his musical stylings and rare gem in the Jay Reatard collection, his website has hosted a cover of the Nirvana tune "Frances Farmer will have her revenge on Seattle". Lindsey is known to have played all the instruments.

His memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 16 at 5:00pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN, as per his website. This will be open to the public.
