Jay Leno Show canceled, Leno worms into Conan O'Brien's spot

As Howard Stern predicted, the Jay Leno Show has been one of the great disasters in prime time history,
and Leno has weaseled his way back into his old timeslot (AP File Photo).

The Jay Leno Show has been canceled and NBC executives announced Sunday that Jay Leno will be returning to his 11:35PM timeslot in some capacity.

The futures for The Tonight Show host Conan O'Brien and Late Night host Jimmy Fallon are still uncertain.  Conan O'Brien has been offered the option to host The Tonight Show at 12:05AM on NBC after Jay Leno's as yet untitled new project.  There are also rumors that Conan O'Brien has been offered an 11:30PM timeslot by FOX.

Howard Stern has been gleefully chronicling the downfall of The Jay Leno Show since it's premiere in September.

Jay Leno takes heat for stealing ideas from Howard Stern

Howard Stern frequently broadcasts his distaste for Jay Leno both as a comedian and as a person.  During Howard Stern's June 2009 appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman, Howard Stern stated:

"I never liked Jay. I can't STAND Jay. I've never seen anybody who behaves like a robot like this guy."

Never doubt the King of All Media.

Leno flops, and now Conan has to pay for it.

Just dump Leno for christ's sake.

Conan should leave NBC. They screwed him over. Ratings for NBC at late night are gonna drop like crazy. This is possibly the worst decision NBC has ever made, and they'll pay for it. Conan should take that offer at Fox. I love Jay Leno, but he left and shouldn't be coming back. He's like Brett Favre; should have quit already.

    Long live Conan!

For anybody who is too young to recall - or, perhaps, just wasn't interested in late night TV, back then - it might help to get some background on this whole Leno vs Letterman feud. Here's the full story of how Jay Leno acquired 'The Tonight Show' hosting gig from Johnny Carson, in 1993.

What is forgotten by some numbskulls is that Conan's show was also not doing well. When Leno handed it off to him, it was the #1 comedy show for that time slot, perhaps even the #1 show of any type for that time period. Coco was not willing to move over for 30 minutes. So, why shouldn't Jay take it back?
