As Leno was growing up, he used to say that he would take over Johnny Carson's job, which he eventually did. In the late 1970s, he was the warm-up act for Johnny Mathis, Tom Jones, and John Denver.
From 1992 to 2009, Leno was the host of NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Although mostly being a TV host, Leno has been associated with over 200 film and or other television projects as either an actor or voice actor. Some of which he has produced or directed and most of which he has portrayed "himself." He's also known for the show Jay Leno's Garage.
Beginning in September 2009, Leno is scheduled to have a primetime talk show, tentatively titled The Jay Leno Show, which will air weeknights at 10:00 p.m. ET on NBC.
