The latest additions to the tenth anniversary of Rock and Shock's special guests goes way beyond horror to round out a weekend of fun you won't want to miss. Clerks stars Jason Mewes and Brian O'Halloran will not only be signing autographs, but will also host a panel entitled "I'm Not Even Supposed to Be Here" on Saturday, October 19 at Worcester's newly renovated DCU Center.
Mewes will also be joining actor/writer/director Kevin Smith on stage at the Worcester Palladium on the convention's opening night, Friday, October 18. The twosome will bring their famed characters, Jay and Silent Bob, to Rock & Shock with a viewing of their new animated film - Jay and Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie. Having brought the characters to life in several of Smith's renowned films such as Clerks, Mallrats and Dogma, the legendary best buds from Jersey are back on the big screen to dispense weed and wisdom, this time in cartoon form. Preceded by a special early screening of Smith's Westboro Baptist Church-inspired horror flick Red State, fans will have the opportunity to watch the new movie with its stars and then participate in rip-roaring Q&A and podcast recording afterward.
“We do an intro, we've got the Jay and Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie. It's an animated movie that I produced and Kevin wrote,” Mewes recently told the Boston Horror Examiner. “I intro the movie, we play the movie, then there's a ten minute intermission. Afterward, I do a Q&A - a podcast, if you will - and then at the end, we grab three or four audience members and bring them up on stage, and we play a game called 'Let Us Fuck'. That's been fun; it's a silly game but people seem to dig it. Afterward, I hang out, I sign and take pictures and chill, and get to meet the fans and stuff. I think that's one of the more enjoyable parts. I mean, I like watching the movie, but I've seen it a bunch, so it's nice afterward to go out and chill, and hang out with everybody and meet some interesting cool people. It's going to be a blast.”
Having appeared at dozens of conventions over the years, Mewes cites Boston as one of his favorite convention destinations.
“It's one of my favorites, I have to say. I did a bunch one year, and I have to say, Boston and Florida are my favorites. There's a really fun one in Florida called Spooky Empire that I really enjoy,” Mewes cites. “But Boston definitely is a favorite, for sure. Just the vibe of the convention and, not to mention, each night you get to see a band. I got to see GWAR and Insane Clown Posse. So it's been cool."
Held at the DCU Convention Center and The Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts, Rock and Shock is the first to blend a horror convention with a music festival, combining horror stars such as legendary Robert Englund (Nightmare on Elm Street, Hatchet), Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgment Day, The X-Files), The Walking Dead's Michael Rooker and Scott Wilson and even the first-ever convention appearance by the people who brought you Sharknado. Add to that performances by Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes (Jay and Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie and Podcast Q&A), Danzig with special guest Doyle and Twiztid as well as artists, vendors, guest panels, Q&A's, screenings and red-carpet film premieres, and Rock and Shock is clearly the ultimate experience for horror film and hard music fans. The fun kicks off on Friday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m. - get your tickets now!
