The Cellars at Jasper Hill takes Best of Show at ACS 2013

August 2, 2013 - Winnimere, a seasonal cow's milk cheese from The Cellars at Jasper Hill in Greensboro, Vermont, beat out 1,794 entries to win Best of Show at the 2013 American Cheese Society conference in Madison, Wisconsin. Mateo Kehler of Cellars at Jasper Hill says of the win, “Winnimere represents the soul of our business, and the award is recognition for the hard work of so many people.”

Second place Best of Show was taken by Grafton Village of Brattleboro, Vermont, for their Bear Hill cheese. Bleu Mont Dairy, from Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, tied themselves for third place for their Bandaged Cheddar and their Big Sky Grana cheeses.

This years competition featured 1,794 cheeses entered by a record 257 companies. Entries came from 34 US states, 4 Canadian Provinces, and one each from Mexico and Colombia. 284 awards were won by US entries, and 31 by Canadian. A panel of 19 Technical judges and 18 Aesthetic judges tasted through the entries to rank the cheeses over several very long days.
