Will the Jason Wu collection at Target cause as much of a frenzy as it the Missoni launch did last Fall? Starting Sunday, February 5, 2012 the new line of women's fashions will hit select Target stores and Target.com online with 53 different pieces priced under $60. The collection is described as one that "blends feminine sophistication with a mischievous nod to the 1960s." (UPDATE: Target has restocked most of the collection after an initial sell-out)
Jason Wu is already a top Google trend hours before the clothing is available to buy, indicating that this could be another quick hit for the discount retailer. If shoppers love what they have been seeing in the Target commericals, they most certainly will be prepared to place an order when the collection goes live on Sunday. (continue reading below)
Target has been hyping the fashion line created by the 29-year-old Taiwanese American fashion designer for weeks now, but you may also recognize his name outside of the Target promotions -- Wu designed First Lady Michelle Obama’s Inaugural gown.
Will the launch crash the Target site just like the Missoni launch did in September? If the Jason Wu collection is as big as suspected, it may happen. However, the woman next door shopping for a new, reasonably priced designer dress might not be the one crashing the site. Undoubtedly there are already hoards of people waiting to place an order on Target.com, only to resell the items at much higher prices on eBay.
The collection may sell out and if you want to buy the pieces when they're no longer available on the Target site, you will be forced to pay inflated prices from resellers. That would make this fashion line a not so affordable option for the average shopper.
