Jason White is ready to rumble. After experiencing a parts failure on his No. 00 Toyota Camry in last week's race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, he's anxious to return to form in Jeff Foxworthy's Grit Chips 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Although the high banks and close quarters of Bristol intimidate several drivers, White looks forward to racing there. In fact, Bristol is his favorite track and he hopes his performance in Saturday's race gets his SR2 Motorsports squad back on track.
"I'm really excited about this weekend," stated White. "We've run into some bad luck the past couple of weeks, but I'm confident that we can turn things around on Saturday. We're a solid team and we've put great cars on the race track, but we've had a few bad breaks that have kept us from good finishes this season. I know this could be our weekend to get back on the right track."
White has three Nationwide Series starts at Bristol. His best finish is 32nd, which he scored in 2003. In Camping World Truck Series competition, he has six starts to his credit. He's driven to four top-20s and two top-15s. His best finish is 14th place, which he achieved in 2009 and 2012.
"At Bristol, there's no time to be patient," White added. "The leaders are already at the tail-end of the field when green flag drops, so you can't hang back and wait to make your next move. At the same time, there are wrecks waiting to happen around every turn and there's barely enough room to make passes, so you've got to be careful and not do anything to take you out of the race. It's a tough balance, but that's what makes it such a fun track to race at."
Fans can catch the Jeff Foxworthy's Grit Chips 300 from Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday, Mar. 16 at 2 p.m. ET. The race will be broadcast on ESPN, and will be available on the radio from MRN and SiriusXM 90.
Newt Moore, crew chief of the No. 00 team, knows his way around Thunder Valley. He led Kenny Wallace to the pole in 1997's August Cup Series race. He also called the race for Greg Biffle's 2005 second-place finish in the August Nationwide Series event.
"Bristol is my favorite track," White concluded. "We go to a lot of cool venues, but there's only one Bristol. There's nothing quite like the high banks, the roar of the crowd, the rumble of the engines. It's just electrifying at Bristol. It's easy to understand why the fans love it so much."
