The mellow audience relaxing at the top of Clematis St. Sunday evening, August 22, 2010 enjoyed the sound and feeling of a Jimmy Buffett performance by the tribute band, Jason Webb and the Caribbean Chillers.
The name “Tribute Band,” is often used for an act that impersonates Elvis, The Beatles, The Doors or even Liza or Cher. Yet the term is an appropriate description for Jason Webb and The Caribbean Chillers, serving up the Margaritaville-esque mood as a Tribute to Jimmy Buffett.
The group’s show features songs by Jimmy Buffett, such as “A Pirate Looks At Forty,” “Margaritaville” and “It’s 5:00 Somewhere” and covers that Buffett does, like David Crosby’s “Southern Cross,” as well as some nice original work, including “Salt Happens” and “I Like To Drink Margaritas!”
Jason Webb and The Caribbean Chillers play as part of a series of concerts
The performance by the Caribbean Chillers is part of a series of free monthly concerts, held the fourth Sunday of the month from May to October and originally scheduled for the Meyer Amphitheatre. The shows are now hosted at the fountain side band shell at the nearby Centennial Square concert meadow along Flagler Drive.
The beautiful, family-friendly, grass-covered venue provides a scenic setting along the Indian River, with plenty of space to spread out your blanket, set up your chairs and park your gear. There is ample room to get together with friends and for the kids to stretch their legs. Stroller- and pedestrian-friendly paved walkways are available, as are convenient restrooms and vendors for food and beverages – although picnics are welcome.
Webb calls his show an “authentic recreation of what you’ll see, hear and experience at a Jimmy Buffett Concert!” The depth of the Orlando-based group can ebb and flow from a full band to Webb as a solo performer. The full 14-piece orchestra includes steel drums, two female vocalists, dancers and up to a three-piece horn section. Pre-show activities are also available, such as opening acts and even stilt walkers. It was a five member crew that entertained in West Palm Beach Sunday.
