Multi-Grammy Award-sinning singer/songwriter Jason Mraz is back in a major way. The “I Won’t Give Up” singer announced on his website on Monday that his next album, “Yes!,” will be released on July 15. Mraz also dropped details about the much-anticipated fifth studio album and discussed the meaning of the title.
In an interview with TIME, Mraz reveals that the title is mostly a reference to people who have said “yes” to him. It is also a reference to his own belief that saying “yes” to other things can open an internal door to creativity. That creativity is unleashed in his 14-song album that promises to be a “purely acoustic and more intimate sound.” As if music from Mraz couldn’t get any more intimate, the “I’m Yours” singer kicked off his “Mraz Mondays” weekly release series with the debut of the album’s first single, “Love Someone.”
According to Billboard, Mraz produced the new album with Mike Mogis and recorded the LP in Omaha and Oceanside, CA. The album follows his highly successful “Love Is A Four Letter Word” LP featuring the Top 40 hit single “I Won’t Give Up.” The album sold 500,000 copies and has his fans starving for more.
Not only is Mraz celebrating the release of the album with his “Mraz Mondays,” he is also scheduled to make several music appearances. On May 21 he will be performing at the “American Idol” season finale singing alongside third-place finisher Alex Preston, and on May 23 he will make an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
Preston revealed that Mraz has approached him about writing songs together as the two do have similar style in delivering music. Performing and writing with Mraz is like a dream to Preston who simply said, “I’m really excited about it.” Fans of Mraz’s music are also excited to hear and share the intimacy of his soul.
