April 21, 2010 - Jason Mraz received the award for "Song of the Year" tonight for his hit song "I'm Yours" at the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers' 27th annual Pop Music Awards in Los Angeles. The event attended by over 700 leading songwriters, recording artists and music industry leaders also paid special tribute to Patti Smith and The Killers, as well as songwriters and publishers behind some of today’s most popular songs.

Jason Mraz, who was accompanied by singer/songwriter and former girlfriend, Tristan Prettyman at the event, performed "I'm Yours" at the ceremony. "I'm Yours" holds the record at 76 weeks for the longest running single on Billboard's Hot 100 charts. Mraz was romantically involved with Tristan Prettyman in 2005. Together they recorded the duet "Shy That Way" for her debut album, Twentythree.
"Songwriters are crazy people and I'm grateful that there are organizations out there that keep us crazy people in business," Jason Mraz said while accepting his award.
Special awards were presented to Patti Smith who was honored with the ASCAP Founders Award and The Killers who received ASCAP's Vanguard Award. ASCAP President and Chairman Paul Williams recognized Smith as "a songwriter, poet, trailblazer, and rock icon whose creative genius and rock ‘n’ roll spirit will continue to inspire generations to come."
Songwriter of the Year went to Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald who wrote five of the most performed songs of the past year including Katy Perry's "Hot N Cold," Kelly Clarkson's "My Life Would Suck Without You," and Miley Cyrus' "Party In the USA."
