Jason Mraz has a special place in his heart for San Diego. San Diego is where he currently lives and is also where he got his start in the music business by playing at small coffeehouses like the former Java Joe's, which also featured Jewel in her early days.
This year, San Diego shows their appreciation of Jason Mraz with three nominations at the 19th annual San Diego Music Awards. Mraz is nominated for Album of the Year for We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things, Song of the Year for "Lucky" with Colbie Caillat, and Artist of the Year.
The San Diego Music Awards honors local bands that have "impressed the community with their talent and originality." In the past, Jason Mraz has won San Diego Artist of the Year for 2002, 2003 and 2004, and also Best Acoustic Performer in 2002, an award that was given to Jewel in 1994 and 1995. In 2003, Mraz also won Song of the Year for "The Remedy (I Won't Worry)."
While Mraz has attended several of the San Diego Music Awards shows in the past, this year the date is scheduled for September 10, 2009 at the Viejas Concerts in the Park in Alpine, California. However, Jason Mraz already has a concert scheduled for that night in Charlotte, North Carolina (a re-scheduled date since the original concert at the Uptown Amphitheatre got rained out).
