Surpassing Leann Rimes' "How Do I Live" which held the record at 69 weeks, Jason Mraz has made history this week with his mega-hit "I'm Yours" becoming the longest-running single to stay on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. "I'm Yours" has now spent a remarkable 70 weeks on the chart, equivalent to approximately 15 months since it debuted in May 2008.
"I'm Yours" peaked at No. 6 last year on September 20, 2008. According to Billboard, the song has resided "within the top 40 of the list in all but the first 12 weeks of its chart life, dropping 23-29 on the latest tally." It is the only track to reach No. 1 on all four of the following radio-based charts: Mainstream Top 40/Pop Songs, Adult Contemporary, Adult Top 40, and Triple A.
According to Mraz's record company, Atlantic Records, the track has also been certified 4x platinum by the RIAA for sales in excess of 4 million, making “I’m Yours” the third best-selling digital single of all time. "I'm Yours" has also been awarded a "Gold Ringtone" by the RIAA, signaling a half million ringtone sales.
Mraz calls "I'm Yours" his "happy little hippie song." He had no idea that this simple song he wrote in his bedroom one day would become a worldwide sensation. In fact, "I'm Yours" was a fan favorite for several years before it was officially released on Mraz's latest album, We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things. (Read about the evolution of "I'm Yours.")
Jason Mraz has spent the last year and a half performing "I'm Yours" all over the world in concert and on TV (including the United Kingdom, Spain and the Today Show in the US). A new digital EP was recently released called "Yours Truly: The I'm Yours Collection" which features four different versions of the song.
