Celebrity surfers, including singer Jason Mraz and actors Eric Balfour and David Chokachi, participated in a celebrity surfing session in Malibu, California on September 12 to raise money for charity. For each wave that was caught, one hundred dollars was donated to the Surfrider Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the world's oceans, waves and beaches.

Other celebrity surfers who participated in the event included Eric Avery of Jane's Addiction, Chris Shiflett from the Foo Fighters, Martyn Lenoble and Peter DiStefano from Porno for Pyros, actress Lenor Varela, and Sal Masekela from E!'s The Daily 10.
Jason Mraz learned how to surf in Hawaii back in 2005. Whenever Mraz is not touring, he spends his time surfing in his hometown of San Diego. "[Surfing] is great. It's so fulfilling," Mraz explains.
2009 marks the fourth year for the Celebrity Expression Session which was sponsored by the Malibu Surfing Association and Barefoot Wine, and raised a total of $5,000 for the Surfrider Foundation. The Celebrity Expression Session was held as part of the two-day MSA Classic, a premiere surfing contest held since 1962.
