Jason Momoa cast as Drax the Destroyer in 'Guardians of the Galaxy'

According to the near-100%-accurate resources of Latino Review, actor Jason Momoa will be stepping up to take on the role of Drax the Destroyer in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. The website reported that, according to their sources, Mamoa was called in to screen test for James Gunn's upcoming superhero film and delivered such a positive performance that the studio went ahead and offered him the part. The actor's reps reportedly countered the offer and there are now conducting ongoing negations to settle Momoa's final fee.

Best known for playing Conan the Barbarian in the lackluster reboot that debuted in 2011, Momoa seems to be a spot-on choice for playing the extraterrestrial warrior, one who is recruited by Star-Lord to become a member of the galactic superhero team known as the Guardians of the Galaxy.

“A U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.”

Fans may recall that actor Chris Pratt was cast as the film's leading role, Star-Lord, just last month.

Directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt and Jason Momoa and is expected to arrive in theaters on August 1, 2014.
