Jason Gesser to coach RBs for Idaho Vandals in 2011

Jason Gesser will be serving as the running backs coach for the Idaho Vandals this year. Gesser used to be the quarterback for the Washington State Cougars, helping lead the school to some of the best seasons the football program has seen.  He was even an All-America selection during his senior season (2002) and will be remembered as one of the most successful players to wear the crimson and grey.

Gesser is wearing new colors now, and his responsibilities include mentoring kids that are trying to get Idaho back to a bowl game.  He seems like the perfect man for the job, even if he does come from a rival school about eight miles down the road. He isn’t alone though, as Vandals head coach Robb Akey used to call WSU home as well. Together the pair could help the Vandals give the fans a reason to be excited again in 2011.

The Spokesman Review talked to Gesser about his role as running backs coach as well as how he could offer advice to the quarterbacks on the roster. Gesser stated that, “If I see something, I’ll let them know. But if I’m watching the running backs and somehow missed it, I’ll tell them, ‘Hey, I was looking at this.’ But I’ve been constantly helping them out (and answering) any questions they may have on those things.”
