Award-winning wrestling journalist Jason Bryant and former Oklahoma State wrestler Gerry Brisco will be the guests this week for the “On The Mat” show for Wednesday, June 25, the weekly broadcast announced Tuesday via email.
Bryant is the editor and webmaster for the amateur wrestling website TheOpenMat.com. It may be the "offseason" in terms of college wrestling but there's plenty to talk about, especially regarding freestyle and Greco-Roman competition. Among his honors: 2009 NWMA (National Wrestling Media Association) Wrestling Broadcaster of the Year, 2007 WIN (Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine) Wrestling Journalist of the Year, and 2007 Amateur Wrestling News' Bob Dellinger Wrestling Writer of the Year.
Brisco wrestled at Oklahoma State in the 1960s (along with his late brother, Jack Brisco) and is now president of George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame at the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum which will be hosting its Hall of Fame weekend, July 19-20, in Waterloo. The induction ceremony, to be held July 19, will feature honorees Rick Steiner, Scott Steiner (who both wrestled at the University of Michigan under the name Rechsteiner), Wilbur Snyder, Diamond Dallas Page (who will receive the Frank Gotch Award), 1954 Minnesota high school state heavyweight champ Larry Hennig (Lou Thesz Award recipient), former Oklahoma State wrestler Randy Couture (George Tragos Award), and Larry Matysik (Jim Melby Award).
“On the Mat" is a presentation of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum.
