CBS announced this morning that their new romantic comedy Mad Love will be premiering a week earlier than originally planned. The bump up is perfect marketing for the series about young men and women in New York just trying to find love, as its first airdate is now February 14th, Valentine’s Day. So whether you’re heading out with a significant other that evening or staying home with a bottle of wine, you’ll want to set your DVR for this one!
Allow one of the series stars to do the convincing:
“This is what [Mad Love] is all about,” series star Jason Biggs laid it out for LA TV Insider Examiner during a TCA interview earlier this month. “It’s new relationships forming where old ones already existed, and which relationships take focus off of the others…we’re exploring all of those things that happen in real life when you’re in your late twenties, early thirties and you’re starting a very serious relationship with someone.”
Sounds extremely relatable, right?
Biggs also shared with us that he was trying to do a TV comedy (specifically with CBS) for a long time because he loved the idea of being able to explore and develop a character over a potentially long period of time, rather than his feature work which gives him the beginning, middle, and end to an arc right up front. Biggs is eager, therefore, to jump into a character that his own involvement in will influence.
In Mad Love, Biggs is Ben, an idealistic young man living in New York. Sound like an oxymoron? Not according to Biggs himself, who shared he related to the character. Ben is not naïve, nor is he over-the-top in his love-sickness.
“What’s great about the beginning of a relationship, especially one that is that intense; they are that smitten; they have those blinders on-- little things become really big things!” Biggs teased.
Like what? Well, how about saying ‘I love you’? That’s a big deal in a relationship any which way you slice it but especially if it’s said by one person a bit early or without the other immediately reciprocating.
“It’s very real, but also very ripe for comedy,” he pointed out.
Let Biggs talk you into tuning in to his favorite romantic comedy of the season (“Because I’m only in this show!” He smiled) in the video interview to the left.
Mad Love will premiere on February 14th only on CBS. But before you set your DVR, be sure to subscribe to this page as we have more features and interviews on the new series coming soon!
