Jared Loughner, suspect in Rep. Giffords shooting faces 5 charges
TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Washington Post has reported that federal prosecutors have now charged the suspect in yesterday's shooting of Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords with attempted assassination and four other charges.
Anne Witham, a San Francisco resident, says "It's a terrible tragedy. Everyone at my church was praying for them this morning."
Jared Loughner has been charged with one count of attempted assassination of a member of Congress (Gabrielle Giffords), reports the Washington Post and with two counts of killing an employee of the federal government. In addition, Jared Loughner has been charged with two counts of attempting to kill a federal employee.
The first assistant federal public defender in Arizona, Heather Williams, tells press that the 22-year-old suspect, Jared Lee Loughner, does not yet have a lawyer but this will change soon as her office is currently working to have a lawyer appointed to him.
Jared Lee Loughner is alleged to have shot several people yesterday outside a Safeway store in Tucscon Arizona, during a public speaking engagement of Gabrielle Giffords. Giffords was shot in the head and is recovering in hospital.
In all, fourteen people were injured and five of those individuals are in critical condition at the local hospital.
Several people were killed during the incident, including a United States Federal District Judge John M. Roll and a 9 year old girl who had appeared in the book "Faces of the Future, babies born on 9/11."

-Gabriel Zimmerman, 30, Giffords' director of community outreach
-Dorwin Stoddard, 76, a pastor at Mountain Ave. Church of Christ.
-Christina Greene, 9, a student at Mesa Verde Elementary
-Dorthy Murray, 76
-Phyllis Scheck, 79
A possible second shooter, held by police, has been released without charge.
