It has been 20 years since Jared Leto became the heartthrob of young girls as Jordan Catalano, the crush of Claire Danes' Angela Chase on ABC's short-lived yet acclaimed cult fan favorite My So-Called Life.

Now, the Oscar winner could be the object of Marvel Studios, as rumors are circulating that he could be playing Doctor Strange, but Leto might have some competition.

According to Deadline, Tom Hardy (the Bane who broke the Batman in The Dark Knight Rises) and Benedict Cumberbatch (BBC's Sherlock and Star Trek Into Darkness) are considered to be prime contenders for the role.

Once a brilliant but arrogant surgeon, Doctor Strange went to Tibet in hopes of regaining the use of his hands to resume his medical career, but ends up finding more than just a new career. Under the guidance of the Ancient One, he found a newfound sense of purpose and humility as 'The Sorcerer Supreme' -- defending humanity from supernatural threats.

Doctor Strange is also one of the founding members of the Defenders, whose members included the Hulk, who is also one of the founding members of the Avengers, aka 'Earth's Mightiest Heroes'.
