The Japanese media had strong coverage of the July 22, 2009 total solar eclipse that traveled over Japan and East Asia. Over the past couple months, different TV stations had been building up anticipation with special reports. During the event itself several of the major Japanese TV stations had reporters out in multiple locations.
One of the best reports came from the famous Iwo Jima Island. The island, which still has remaining evidence of World War Two, is unpopulated and generally off limits. NHK, one of Japan’s major broadcasting companies, was able to get special permission to film the solar eclipse there for research on high definition broadcasting. The following video found on youtube shows part of the broadcast.
Some might also be interested to know that Google Japan had a special solar eclipse front page logo.
