It is no secret that Japanese and North American gamers have different tastes. As such, publishers and developers often need to cater their titles towards the region-specific audiences.
This usually includes changes to the box art when the game arrives from a different region. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves provides a prefect example. Here is the Japanese cover of the Playstation 3 exclusive game:
And here is the North America version:
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will be released on October 13th in North America.

One of the few times I can say the US box art is better. IMO.

Good to know Japan still hires people to hand draw their covers.
I don't see any difference in regards of one race preferring one over the other.
