Along with all of the other horrors that the Japanese earthquake and tsunami have caused, there are literally thousands of people still missing. The good news is that every day more people are found and are able to reach out in one way or another to let their friends and family know that they are ok. This is true for those Japanese citizens who are famous for their anime, manga or gaming work as well.
If you have been worried whether your favorite manga artist or anime actor/actress survived the tragedy, a good place to check is on animenewsnetwork.com. On this page (started March 11th) you will find a list of anime, manga and gaming professionals who have been able to check in on some sort of social networking site (such as Twitter and Facebook).
The list is constantly being updated, so if you don't see who you are looking for, keep checking back. Just because someone isn't on the list doesn't mean you should fear the worst. They just might not have been able to reach out due to the blackouts and other electrical problems occuring across Japan.
Want to do more to help Japan? Then just look around. Right now in Dayton there are many churches and other charitable organizations that are taking donations to help out the victims of this tragedy. Of course, you can always donate directly through the Red Cross as well. Money isn't the only thing that is needed either. Japanese blood supplies are low, so donating blood through the Red Cross could be just as meaningful as donating cash.
