It appears the WWE might have some competition in being the first promotion to have Brock Lesnar make his triumphant return to pro-wrestling. According to a Thursday January 12th report by PWInsider.com, the Japanese wrestling promotion IGF is trying to book a pro-wrestling match between the recently retired UFC fighter Brock Lesnar and the legendary MMA fighter Fedor Emelianenko.
Lesnar retired from the UFC on Friday December 30th after losing to Alistair Overeem in the 1st round. Brock shocked the MMA world and sparked the WWE Universe by announcing his retirement right after the fight. The IGF has reportedly been trying to get Fedor to make his pro-wrestling debut for some time now.
If the money is right, I can actually see this match happening. Fedor is near the end of his historic career and pro-wrestling has become home to several MMA fighters before him, especially in Japan where they appreciate the pure wrestling more than American fans.
Lesnar vs. Fedor would be a huge draw in Japan and could cause a great buzz. However, Brock is expected to take some time off and return to his secluded ways with his family. Additionally, he has an open door to return to the WWE sooner than later.
Lastly, I doubt UFC President Dana White would let Brock out of his UFC contract to wrestle Fedor, even if it's in Japan. White has a well publicized disliking for Fedor.
