January Wolf Moon

The January full moon is known as the Wolf Moon. The shy animals were once found all over Europe and would come closer into the villages at this time of the year in search of food. For both the wolves and humans, this made for a dangerous time and humans felt a great deal of threat from the animals. These hungry animals were often hunted and revered as monsters.

Today, we are no longer feel threatened by the wolves when we are in our cities, towns and villages. Over time we have come to appreciate their mystery, beauty, and intelligence. Many people today have statues of wolves in their home and they have become very popular animals. Wolves have also been linked with Paganism and witchcraft.

The link between wolves and witchcraft is party because they are nocturnal animals who howl at the moon, which is also revered by Pagans. Its also because magic practitioners were thought to be able to transform themselves into wolves during the full moon, some legends will talk about this sort of thing in the form of werewolves. Like many animals, the wolf has as many legends and meanings as it does misunderstandings.

If you would like to channel the spirit of the wolf you can start by learning about the wolf and how they live in the wild. Immerse yourself in lycanthropic lore of all types.
