“Having now fully invested in the musical as part of the Writers' Theatre conversation it makes sense that we should deepen our respect for the form with a foray into this most thrilling of genres—the dance musical,” notes Writers’ Theatre Artistic Director Michael Halberstam of the company’s upcoming production of Sweet Charity.
“Along with the city's foremost music director Doug Peck and rising local choreographer Jessica Redish, we have assembled a talent-packed cast of actor-singer-dancers (or triple threats as they are known in the business),” explains Halberstam, who also directs the show.
“We are particularly thrilled to be showcasing the remarkable appeal of Tiffany Topol who, already highly respected by her colleagues in Chicago, is about to introduce herself to our audiences in a mighty special way. Writers' Theatre is about to bring its own intimate brand of theatrical sizzle to Glencoe.”
In the role Shirley MacLaine made famous on film, Topol is accompanied by Jarrod Zimmerman, Jeff Parker, Ericka Mac, Karen Burthwright, James Earl Jones II, Katie Spelman, Emily Ariel Rogers, Adam Estes, Travis Porchia and Liam Quealy.
With book by Neil Simon, music by Cy Coleman and lyrics by Dorothy Fields, Sweet Charity runs from January 22 to March 31, 2013 at Writers’ Theatre on 325 Tudor Court in Glencoe, IL.
In Chicago, Boy Gets Girl featuring Kristin Collins, John Stokvis, Will Casey, Jon Stutzman, Symphony Sanders, Kristen Williams, and Leonard Kraft performs at the Raven Theatre through March 2, 2013, with preview shows from January 15-18 and official opening nights on January 20.
Written by Chicago playwright Rebecca Gilman, “Boy Gets Girl demonstrates how someone, armed with just a few personal details, can completely destroy another person's life,” observes the play’s director Cody Estle.
All performances of Boy Meets Girl take place on Raven Theatre’s handicapped accessible West Stage on 6157 North Clark Street. Tickets are $36; $20 during previews; $45 on opening nights. Free parking is provided in a lot adjacent to the theatre; additional street parking is available. For tickets and more information, visit www.raventheatre.com or call 773-338-2177.
