January is Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month

"Humans were never meant to hibernate"! January is Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month (LSSM) and there are some great deals that resorts are offering. Typically, January is a bit of a lull in the ski season. The Holidays are over and the kids are back in school.

Why not try skiing and riding? If you have not tried skiing or snowboarding, now is a great time. If you are already an avid skier or snowboarder, there is something called Bring a Friend Challenge. More on that later.

What kind of deals are out there? Fourteen resorts in Utah are offering special deals and have set a goal to offer 10,000 beginner lessons. Resorts like The Canyons have a $39 package deal for Utah residents offering lift, lesson, and rental equipment. Ski Ward (MA) has a one - time $49 learn-to package (1 hour group lesson, all day beginners area ticket and rentals) and a three - time $125 learn-to package. Arapahoe Basin in Colorado announced its Super Sundays for beginners. Wisconsin's Trollhaugen is offering a FREE season pass for those who complete their three trial beginner package. Massanutten (VA) has a special deal on its Pathway Program. Wachusett in Massachusetts is offering a Bring a Friend for Fun package.

Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month is a national initiative that began in 2008 and has grown to 33 states and over 300 resorts participating. LSSM strives to make learning skiing and snowboarding easy, accessible, and affordable for both children and adults. The initiative has challenged everyone to get out and exercise this year with the theme “Humans Were Never Meant to Hibernate” and to Bring a Friend.

The Bring a Friend Challenge offers prizes to existing skiers and snowboarders for introducing their friends to the sports. Prizes include destination packages like 4 nights in Utah for skiing/riding Park City, The Canyons, and Deer Valley. For more information go to www.bringafriend.org

Like the slogan says, "Humans are not meant to hibernate". What are you waiting for? Get out there and enjoy the snow!
