January is Learn a Snow Sport Month

Vermont got it right when they proclaimed January to be Learn A Snow Sport Month. What better way to stay true to your New Years resolution to lose a few pounds, or step outside the box then to pick up a new outdoor sport. While it is in fact Governor Douglas's attempt to promote the Green Mountain States many ski resorts it is still a very good idea, one that all Bostonians should endorse.

The Skating Club of Boston offers skating school lessons as well as plenty of free skate hours for those of you looking to learn on your own.

Vermont may be the Green Mountain State, but Massachusetts has "mountain skiing minutes away". Our friends at Wachusett Mountain offer 22 trails, 8 lifts and plenty of Learn To Turn programs. They have made it even easier to join in the winter fun by collaborating with The MBTA, offering a ski train out of North Station. Check snow conditions and trail maps here.

Get off the couch, leave your comfort zone and try something new. Who knows, you could be the next luge Olympic star or maybe even join that curling team you have been promising yourself for so many years. No matter what you try this winter make sure to have fun doing it.
